Tonight We Had Cake!
Tonight we had cake.
We frosted it up and stuck it on the fancy cake plate that we usually reserve for birthday parties.
We even sang…
I guess we were celebrating Monday.
Or April 27.
Or day 5,389,462 of quarantine.
Or another day of homeschooling successfully(-ish) completed.
Or maybe just the fact that a box of cake mix was on sale for $1.19.
Either way.
We sang and served up cake with ice cream and everyone smiled for a little bit.
I want you to know it isn’t often this way.
We aren’t that sweet of a family.
Please don’t think we’re over here making sweet fuzzy memories every moment of this weird and difficult time.
Nope.
The truth is when my children aren’t doing schoolwork, they are playing video games.
And when they aren’t playing video games, they are mostly bickering and fighting and teasing and wrestling and being loud and making messes and bothering each other.
Usually until someone gets mad.
Or screams.
Or cries.
(Sometimes…okay oftentimes…that person is me).
Even as we ate this cake there was an argument over exactly what we were celebrating and whether or not Lizzy’s face was dirty (it was).
Uuuuggggghhhhh.
Staying home is hard.
Emotions are running high.
All my kids are disappointed about missing sports and not seeing their friends and too much schoolwork and being bored most of the time and feeling all cooped up. Together.
We’re all a little worried about the summer. And about the future. And what happens next.
Staying home all the time is just HARD!!!
For all of us.
But tonight…
We celebrated with cake. It’s the best we can do.
So, Happy Quarantine to you!
