He Will Forever Be My Baby

I once bought my baby a little pair of shoes.

I turned them over and over in the palm of my hand and thought, ‘How cute! Can you imagine?? Look how tiny these are!’

Then I watched with pride as my baby learned to roll and crawl then toddle away in his little shoes.

I stared with wonder.

I marveled at all he could do.

Every day I was overcome by my astonishing love for one baby boy.

Just a few weeks ago, my boy went for new basketball shoes. He pulled them out when he got home and said in his deep voice, “Mom, look at my new shoes.”

Size 14.

I turned them over and over in my two hands and thought, ‘Holy cow! Can you imagine?? Look at the size of these shoes!’

Now I watch with pride as my 6ft-tall son sprints down the court and boxes out and sinks three-point shots in his giant shoes.

I stare with wonder.

I marvel at all he can do.

And every day I am still overcome by my astonishing love for one nearly grown boy.

Because the truth is…

No matter how tall he grows or how big his ginormous shoes, he’ll forever be my baby!!
