Today Was Hard

Today was hard.

It started with a rushed morning. I didn’t get much done during my morning ‘working’ time, then things escalated when I picked them up from school. My herd of kids threw open the car door, and the noise began.

“Hurry up!!”

“Watch out!!”

“Dude, your bag!!”

“Get in!! Scoot over!!”

“Stop it!!!”

And it continued all afternoon.

"Moooooom!!"

There was waaaay more bickering and waaaaaay less listening than usual. And my patience grew short.

Nothing big or truly HARD. Just one little thing piled on top of another…leaving my shoulders aching and confidence weary.

I did my best to silence the teeny little voice that whispered, “You must not be doing this right!!!”

I served up some dinner (that nobody really ate) and sent my little ones to bed.

I wanted to let it all out to my husband when he came home late from work, but I remember those long days working at the hospital all too well. How hard and draining that all was. So instead, I chatted while he ate his reheated dinner. Rubbed his tired shoulders for a bit.

Then I retreated for some quiet time.

In the bath, I let a few tears slip down my cheeks.

And then I handed it all over…to Jesus.

Today was a hard one.

But He’s got me.

Now I’m ready to try again tomorrow.
